Spring has sprung and Boca Grande is abuzz. With the gorgeous weather, there has also been an increase in people enjoying the GICIA Bike Path. In a cooperative effort to provide a safe and fun experience for all users, the GICIA has once again partnered with the Island School’s Fifth Graders in a project to heighten safety awareness in a fun and creative way.

As family, friends, and visitors gather in Boca Grande to enjoy the start of spring, activity on the GICIA Bike Path increases dramatically.   This is the third year the GICIA has called on The Island School’s fifth graders to create a fun sign campaign to emphasize and encourage bike path safety.

Over the last month, the entire fifth-grade class worked to create multicolored, hand-drawn signs to remind path users to be kind and safe, slow down, respect nature, and share the path.

The talented artists are Sophie Benson, Alex Benton, Campbell Cole, Eleacea Karuzis, Csenge Penzski, Olivia Rittinger, Aria Schork, and Brielle Spurgeon.

“The GICIA is impressed by the creativity of the artwork The Island School’s fifth-grade students produced this year, and we are pleased they have volunteered to help us promote safety on the path,” said Rick Ganong, GICIA Bike Path chairman.

“While everyone enjoys the colorful and whimsical flair of the signs within the town park, we hope the signs will also remind users to slow down and be courteous of others when using the GICIA Bike Path,” said Ganong.

The GICIA is happy to work with The Island School’s fifth-graders on the Bike Path safety campaign.

Enjoy their artwork as you use the path through Easter, and please remember to remain alert and watchful of all path users, and always be kind and courteous.
