■ STAFF REPORT
New at the Boca Grande Historical Society is an Archival Research Center where individuals and organizations will be able in the near future to access the many materials the Society archives. These include maps, VHS tapes and DVDs, artifacts, subject files, oral histories, History Bytes presentations, newspapers, photos, letters, architectural drawings and other items.
A group of History Center volunteers has begun the process of cataloguing and cross-referencing all materials in the archives and, most recently, using a grant from the Boca Grande Woman’s Club, has purchased the necessary computer hardware and software to make the archives easily available to all. Other private funding including Boca Grande Realty will enable the History Center to continue this process with the goal of developing a research facility that will benefit the Boca Grande community in addition to other individuals, area schools, libraries, other historical societies, architects, educators and researchers.
The new equipment also gives the Historical Society the ability to borrow materials from Boca Grande’s early families, digitize the materials and return them. The Society welcomes anyone with historic materials to contact the History Center.
