By Staff Report

The Rotary Club of Englewood is returning to normal with their Annual 43rd Fine Arts Festival on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Englewood’s beautiful Dearborn Street comes to life with stunning original artwork drawing thousands of visitors to the heart of Englewood. Englewood will house many artists who will display and sell their original artwork. These artists and their creations are the stars of this two-day weekend art show. Every imaginable handmade item is here: fine jewelry, art glass, paintings, photography, ceramics, sculpture and more. It is a great way to celebrate spring and enjoy the ambiance of Englewood.  In addition to the art displays, the festival will feature food and beverages from local restaurants and vendors, and shopping throughout the popular Dearborn Street stores. It is important to support our community endeavors, the artists, and local businesses.

This year’s featured artist is Thomas Krause, one of Florida’s finest marine and wildlife artists. Tom was born in Mt. Clements, Michigan and has been a resident of Florida since 1979.  He graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. As a student, he was featured in the Best of Ringling shows. He has also appeared locally in magazines and newspaper articles and has been featured on regional television for his unique artwork. You can find his work featured at Tampa International Airport and Raymond James Stadium. His amazing ability to light his subject material underwater with refracted light is breathtaking.  Tom’s unique skill comes from having spent a lot of his time underwater, in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean waters. Tom continually travels in North America to satisfy his quest for new subject material, as painting has become his life’s most important journey.

The art show is free to the public, but Rotarians will be asking for a $2 donation that benefits the Englewood Rotary Youth Foundation. The Englewood Youth Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that supports many local youth activities, including over $47,000 yearly for Lemon Bay High School scholarships. Donations will be used to support area youth activities and literacy campaigns, such as One Book One School program at Myakka River Elementary, Englewood Area Little League, Lemon Bay High School, Eagle Scout programs, and Kid’s Needs.
