david-framed paintingBoca Grande’s own Capt. Dave Chatham fished the Raymond James Boca Grande Classic this week, held at the Gasparilla Inn on May 12 and 13, and was declared Grand Champion for his slam with the most points. It is part of the Redbone at Large series.
Points in the tournament are awarded per species, and bonus points are awarded for a slam, which is a tarpon, snook, redfish, and trout.
There were only two slams to be had out of 38 boats participating.
Teams were divided up into divisions based on preferred fishing method – fly, spin/plug and live bait – and Dave was in the live bait division. He ended up with the most points of the two slams, and took home the top prize.
The tournament raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, to fund research for a cure.
Dave’s anglers were Cris Branden and Stephann Cotton both of Stuart, Florida.
