To the Editor:
The McCarthy family and the estate of Paul F. McCarthy, owners of Captiva Cruises and McCarthy’s Marina, are pleased to announce the sale of both companies to the Captiva Cruises Management Team. Paul McCarthy founded Captiva Cruises in 1986 and McCarthy’s Marina in 1991. McCarthy’s Marina serves as the home base and one of the departure points for Captiva Cruises, along with cruises and excursions departing from the beautiful South Seas Island Resort. For more than 30 years, Captiva Cruises has offered residents and visitors a variety of boat trips to explore the natural beauty of Captiva Island and Florida’s Gulf Coast, including cruises to nearby waterways and barrier islands. Paul served as the sole owner of both companies until his death in 2016.
Paul left a substantial legacy of environmental stewardship and ecotourism. Captiva Cruises continues to foster respect and appreciation for the native splendor of Southwest Florida and is a recognized leader in the Florida ecotourism industry. Since Paul’s passing in 2016, his tight-knit management team and staff at Captiva Cruises, whom Paul considered family, have carried out Paul’s legacy by continuing to operate Captiva Cruises with excellence and embracing the company culture of environmental stewardship. The Captiva Cruises Management Team formally approached the McCarthy family with a proposal to buy the companies. Paul’s family wished to honor Paul’s long-time intent to one day sell the businesses to the Management Team, and accepted the offer.
The Captiva Cruises Management Team consists of Brad Junghans, Bob Rando and Jenny Rando, who bring a combined 63 years of experience serving as key managers for Captiva Cruises. The Management Team has done an outstanding job in working with the company’s exceptional captains, crew and staff in preserving Paul’s legacy and continuing to provide first-rate, caring service to guests, visitors and to the Captiva and Sanibel Island communities. Paul’s family wishes the Management Team and all of the employees of Captiva Cruises the very best good fortune going forward and looks forward to seeing Captiva Cruises and McCarthy’s Marina continue to thrive, grow and prosper for many years to come.
