The Smart Studio will present a special silent auction of Dominican children’s art at their Boca Grande gallery on Park Avenue, March 25 through April 8.
Children from the La Vega Christian School in the Dominican Republic wanted to help the Haitian children go to school and they have sent their artwork to be sold to raise funds. Haitians, who fled their country after the disastrous earthquake, find their children can’t attend public school in the Dominican Republic as they have no required birth certificates or other paperwork.
Missionaries Mitch and Debbie Martinez have opened three Haitian schools to help rectify this problem. They have found Haitian teachers and also supply the children with lunch. The schools need funds to continue this good work, and children can be sponsored for as little as $25 a month.
At this time 168 Haitian students are attending their schools. At least 100 of them need a sponsor to provide a quality education. Wini Smart is also donating a painting for this cause and 100 percent of the proceeds raised will go to the children.
Come by to see the artwork, and leave your best donation. You will be giving a deserving child a future. For more information call the gallery at 964-0519.
