Save the date for the Firehouse 5K and Chamber Chili

The Firehouse 5K, put on by the Boca Grande Fire Department, is planned for Saturday, Nov. 7, followed by the Big Mouth Chili Cookoff. The run will begin and end near The Pink Elephant at 491 Bayou Ave. The course passes the Gasparilla Inn before heading down Gilchrist Avenue.

On the day of the event, packet pick-up will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. next to the finish/start line.

Registration is $35 for adults and $25 for 18 and under. The price will increase after Sept. 7 and shirts will be reserved for all participants while supplies last. There is no registration on the day of the event.

Awards will be given to the first, second and third place male and female winners in each age division: <9, 10-12, 13-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80+. Special awards will be given for the male and female overall, master (40+), grandmaster (50+), senior grandmaster (60+) and veteran master (70+).

All proceeds go to the Fire Department through the Firefighters Association. This year, the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce will continue the tradition of holding the Big Mouth Chili Cookoff immediately following the 5K. Unlike last year, this year’s cookoff will take place in the downtown area of Boca Grande. It will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
