BY AMANDA COCHRAN, DISTRICT 5 CANDIDATE
Today, I officially filed for the Lee County District 5 Commission seat. Several weeks ago, I also submitted my application to Governor DeSantis’ office for consideration of appointment. While the Governor has not yet announced his selection, and I am respectfully awaiting his decision, I want the people of Lee County to know this: my commitment to you has not wavered for a moment.
To those who have reached out with overwhelming encouragement in recent weeks, I am deeply humbled by your confidence and your belief in the work we started together. To those who supported and voted for me in the last election, I am sincerely grateful for your trust. And to those who did not, I will work tirelessly to earn your confidence and demonstrate my dedication to serving every corner of this county.
In the most recent District 5 primary, we earned 65 percent of the local vote, carrying 15 of 17 precincts – including 87 percent in my home precinct – demonstrating our community’s confidence, unity and desire for effective representation.
As a lifelong Lee County resident and an advocate for those who often feel unheard or overlooked, I remain committed in my mission to bring transparency, accountability, and practical, common-sense leadership to our county government. At this pivotal moment in Lee County’s history, we must come together – residents, families, businesses and local leaders – to protect our quality of life while ensuring the continued strength and vitality of our economy.
I have said it many times over: I love Lee County. All of it. From Bonita Springs to Boca Grande, and from Cape Coral to Lehigh Acres, I remain determined to fight for what is right, to give a voice to all our communities and to stand up for the people who call this place home.
I am blessed to stand alongside a dedicated and selfless campaign team made up of individuals who embody the very best of grassroots organizing and who believe, as I do, that when a community stands together it can accomplish extraordinary things. I truly believe we can make a difference. And with your support, we will.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your encouragement, your belief in our mission and your shared commitment to a stronger, more accountable Lee County.
