Wheeler pickleball construction begins in September

By Staff Report

Construction will begin Tuesday, Sept. 2, on a $1.7 million renovation project at Wheeler Road Community Park in Boca Grande. The project will replace the park’s two tennis courts with three pickleball courts and two tennis courts, along with new parking spaces, shade structures, a chain-link fence, and a larger restroom.

The restroom will be closed during construction. Temporary restrooms will be available on-site. The dog park and the majority of the parking lot will remain open; however, a small section of the lot will be closed for contractor staging. Patrons are asked to follow staff instructions and posted signs for their safety.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2026, weather permitting. The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved the renovations in January 2024 as part of ongoing improvements to county park facilities. AIM Engineering & Surveying, Inc. is providing design, engineering and construction administration services for the project.
