Scarpa’s Coastal added outdoor seating. Clyde Nabers retired for the second time. The first retirement was from Nabers Chevron as the owner and the second time as the Lee County Mosquito Control Officer.

Testing of the new swing bridge left drivers stuck for about 90 minutes when the bridge would not close. 

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

GICIA had awarded Boca Grande Fishing Guides Association a grant of $6,000 to support the organization’s legal efforts to maintain the tradition of tarpon fishing.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Lee County was preparing an ordinance to create the Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board. The Christmas lighting of the Boca Grande Lighthouse included a re-enactment of the landing of the “mistletoe.”

Jack Harper, owner of Miller’s Marina created a new tarpon tournament offering more than $1 million in cash prizes.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The 88-acre Cedar Point Environmental Park on Lemon Bay was dedicated.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Three new boats were purchased for the sheriff’s department boat fleet and were dedicated. The boats were 23-foot center console Sea Rays each equipped with twin 135 hp Mercury Marine engines.

FORTY YEARS AGO

A homeowner on Knight Island had their house moved across the street and placed on pilings. The move brought reporters, photographers and representatives of the League of Women Voters to witness the historic move.
