FIVE YEARS AGO

The Bocapalooza reunion was held with the usual, huge amount of fun. It was a get-together for the young and old who called Boca Grande their hometown.

TEN YEARS AGO

Heidemarie J. Burke won awards for her photography in the Florida Professional Photographers’ competition.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

The first Saltwater Summit was held in Sarasota and attended by Mary O’Bannon and her husband, Capt. Phil O’Bannon. The Summit was held to learn more about beach and Gulf laws and preservation.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

A Charlotte County judge ruled in favor of Boca Boats Inc. in its two-year-old battle with Sunset Realty Corp., owner of the Uncle Henry’s Marina. The ruling allowed them to renew their lease for another three years.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

The Florida State Attorney’s office requested additional information from Lee County Sheriff’s office about the shooting death of Terry “Ty” Tyler.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce held a Business Card Exchange and Social at Uncle Henry’s Restaurant in The Courtyard.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Two island homes on Tarpon Street received matching grants from the Lee County Historic Preservation Assistance Program.

FORTY YEARS AGO

A Lighthouse Dedication and Relighting ceremony was held for the Coast Guard Range Light.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

The Army Corps of Engineers began dredging the entrance to Boca Grande channel after several delays.
