Englewood Sailing Association taught 63 new students the basics of sailing at its three summer camp events.

TEN YEARS AGO

Lee County proposed a roadway improvement project for 6.5 miles of roads in Boca Grande, plus the addition of a 4-foot shoulder to both sides of Gasparilla Road. 

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

A freak lightning accident caused a fire in a guest house on 18th Street. It is believed that lightning struck a palm tree that was inches from the guest house, traveled along a copper drip edge and found its way into the attic. The spray-in foam insulation stifled the fire.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

The Boca Grande Historical Society and Museum received a grant for $20,000 to publish a “coffee table pictorial” book featuring Boca Grande history.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

Ashley Coleman came home after a month-long stay in the hospital and a hard battle with strep pneumonia.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The mystery continued with the three fish shack fires as a task force was created to continue the investigation.

The wrap-up to the Indian Summer camp program, Boca Bash, was a huge success. The highlight of the summer camp program was celebrated at the Boca Grande Community House.

Lee County Recreation Department announced the Summer Olympic dates which was the grand finale to its youthful summer activities.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Marker 7 Marina, a 15-acre property, was sold for $2.7 million to the Charlotte Harbor Land Company.
