The Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board voted unanimously to approve the new parish hall for Our Lady of Mercy.

The County ordered 27,000 feet of boom and oil spill training at the Boca Grande Fire Station to prepare for the oil spill in the Gulf.

“Hoot” was looking for extras to be in their movie. The casting agent was seeking nondescript people to be golfers, garbage collectors, a sailor, or just a kid.

GICIA was looking to expand their land conservancy by acquiring three parcels on the Island which would bring their holdings to 105 acres of island real estate.

A group of Islanders were trying to open a community-owned credit union after the last bank on the island closed two years previously.

Heathrow Productions Inc. received a photography permit to film a movie at North Captiva State Recreation Area. The deserted island scenes of the film, Blue Sky, were filmed there.

FORTY YEARS AGO

Camping at Cayo Costa Shoals closed due to lack of sanitary facilities and a shortage of park rangers to cover the four islands.
