■ STAFF REPORT
Three separate cases of thefts from boats occurred on the island and were reported recently. According to reports on Saturday, Dec. 10, GPS units were allegedly stolen from a vessel that was docked in the 100 block of Damficare Street.
Deputies were called to the scene when a caretaker of the boat noticed the two 14-inch Garmin Depth and plotter heads worth $5,000 were missing. While at the scene, deputies discovered that two other boats in the area appeared to have been burglarized.
A 31-foot Sea Ray had cut wires in the console cavity where electronics obviously had been installed. Deputies attempted to contact the owner, but contact was not made. Another vessel was damaged and tampered with, and the owner reported some missing screws and damage to the plastic bezel. He estimated the cleanup and repair cost to be around $150.
A neighborhood canvass was completed and flyers were passed out. If you have any information regarding these cases, contact the local Lee County Sheriff’s Office substation at 964-2400, or call the main office in Fort Myers at (239) 477-1000.
