BY WESLEY LOCKE, WORLD’S RICHEST TARPON TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR – The World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament is routed in the rich history of Traditional Live Bait Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande Pass. In the 80s and 90s the Tournament was in its hay day with celebrity anglers from the band Alabama, corporate sponsorships, Budweiser Girls and legendary Calcutta throw downs.

Although we will never recreate that era, we can move into the next chapter of the World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament on its 38th year honoring and reflecting on the past while working towards a sustainable future for the Boca Grande Silver King.

The World’s Richest keeps the tradition alive and the nostalgic memories present going into the 2 day Big Leagues of the tournament season by honoring local legends that have made their mark on the Boca Grande fishing community. Grande Aire Services presents the “Grande Tradition” award to recognize and reflect on these individuals careers and allow the community the opportunity to tell old stories and celebrate their lives. This year we will be honoring Ms. Elsie Bracken and the late Capt. Mark Futch. Both of their legacies speak for themselves as they have both made an impact as a lifetime Angler and Captain with a love and passion for Tarpon Fishing.

The two honorees will be honored at the WRTT Captain’s Party, Wed. June 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Gasparilla Inn Beach Club which is a PRIVATE event.

If you have a vested interest in attending the Grande Tradition honoring please contact the tournament director, Wesley Locke at (941) 268-1331 or at
