Bayou Bridge removed, for (almost) the last time

The temporary Bayou Bridge is mostly gone, at least temporarily. Wednesday, crews from Kelly Brothers Inc. were dismantling the center of the galvanized steel bridge, which partially sat on 7th Street, just north of the Gasparilla Inn golf course bridge, which is sort of a high humpback with room for one car and one golf […]

The Forbes sea star Asterias forbesi

I was able to find five sea stars on Christmas eve morning that had attached themselves to the trestles so that they could snack on the crustaceans. One of the smaller ones even had its stomach extended out, ready to eat. Sea stars don’t have an internal digestive system or a real mouth. Instead, their stomach extends from the underside of the central disk. The stomach then envelops the food and digests it outside of the body.

2023: Boca Grande Year in Review

The year 2023 was a year where things got back to normal, mostly, from Hurricane Ian. While there were still many houses and condos that were still incomplete, Gasparilla Island came back to some sense of normalcy. But it was not a total normal. Every storm brought angst. The question before every storm, whether Hurricane Idalia or […]
