Richard Scott Faley, of Boca Grande passed away peacefully in Florida on February 15, 2026 at the age of 78. Born on August 18, 1947 in Trenton, NJ, Scott grew up in Titusville, NJ and graduated from Holy Ghost Prep in Bensalem, PA, where he played basketball and was known as “The Bear.” He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law followed by a Masters in Law from George Washington Law School. Scott was a partner at a Washington, DC law firm before founding his own firm, R. Scott Faley, P.C., where he practiced tax law for 40 years. Scott and Josepha were married for 55 years, raising their three children in Chevy Chase, MD before relocating to Boca Grande. He proudly supported his children’s athletic endeavors, coaching soccer and baseball. He was an avid fly fisherman, traveling to Montana, upstate NY, Alaska, Belize, Patagonia, and Siberia, to fish. His favorite spot to come back to was the dock in Boca Bay. He was on the board of Trout Unlimited for many years and shared his love of fly fishing and fly tying, teaching many friends and business associates. He was also known as a wine enthusiast and music lover. Scott is survived by his wife, Josepha B. Faley; children, Scott J. Faley (Christine Stiglbauer), Zachary L. (Maureen) Faley, and Katherine W. Faley; sisters, Patrice Hogan and Pamela Tranchida; and grandchildren, Christopher Stiglbauer-Marley, Luca Faley, and Joseph Faley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Faley, and his parents, Henry and Winifred Faley. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to numerous caregivers, including those at Heritage Oaks of Englewood, for their support and kindness. A Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Mercy in Boca Grande, FL will be planned soon.
