By Staff Report

David Lee Arner, 66, of Pinehurst, N.C. passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at his residence.

Dave was born May 6, 1955, in Massillon, Ohio to Robert and Doris Rudolph Arner. He grew up in Ohio and lived many places but considered Boca Grande to be his home.

In 2017 he moved to Pinehurst to be closer to family. David was an avid reader with a special interest in economics. As a racing fan he closely followed all forms of car racing, including NASCAR, Formula One, touring, etc. He also enjoyed sailing and motorcycle road trips. Later in life he became an artist and completed many beautiful paintings.

Dave was a permanent fixture in Boca Grande for many years and was very involved with the Gasparilla Island Maritime Museum. He also created Pirate Coast Magazine with Becky Seale Paterson, and many people still treasure those fascinating tomes dedicated to the history of and life in Boca Grande.

We will miss him for his intelligence, his humor, his life of the island … but most of all for being such a great friend to so many.

David is survived by his daughter Emily Arner (Costa Cassis); his son Brad Arner (Camille); six grandchildren; Declan, Samuel, Raphael, Nathan, Phoebe and Leo; and his sister Holly Weaver (Wayne).
