Carolyn “Carol” Pell Colin, aged 87, died peacefully on January 7, 2018 at her home in Boca Grande after a valiant struggle with cancer. Carol was born February 19, 1930 in Englewood, New Jersey, the daughter of Charles Elmore Endres and Dorothy May Van Wirt.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Carol worked for Bonwit Teller department store as a buyer in New York City, where she met her first husband, Peter Stuyvesant Pell. In 1956, they married and moved to Chicago, where they spent the next 15 years and celebrated the arrival of their four children.
Carol returned to the northeast and worked as controller for the Federal Paper Board Company until 1982, when she married Ralph F. Colin, Jr. They enjoyed life in New York City, their home in Dorset, Vermont and traveling abroad. Carol served as co-chair of the docent program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute for many years. She also was an active board member of the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Vermont until relocating fulltime to her home in Boca Grande.
Carol was happiest when surrounded by her family and especially delighted in time spent with her grandchildren and her devoted morkie, Annabelle.
Carol was predeceased by her brother, William “Bill” Endres, and her sister, Sue Tolle. She is survived by her three daughters: Leslie van Breen, Pamela Pell, and Melissa Laughlin; her son, Philip Pell; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
There will be a private service for immediate family members at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Carol during her illness.
