Lemon Bay Conservancy tarpon pull on Saturday, Nov. 15

November 6, 2025
By Staff Report

The Lemon Bay Conservancy will host a tarpon “pull” on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7:45 to 10:30 a.m. All new and returning tarpon net pull volunteers are invited to participate in the tarpon research project, where they net young tarpon for measurement and tagging to understand the populations in our waterways. The event is open to everyone in the local community who is interested in participating.

They will first need to load the seine net and other equipment in their Jon boat before using their UTV to tow the boat over to the ponds located by Fiddlers Green. They ask that volunteers use the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve parking lot and plan to meet at the equipment shed at 7:45 a.m. After they have finished loading up, they can drive to Fiddlers Green and use the visitor car parking there.

The actual net pull will get underway around 8:30 a.m., starting with the smaller of our two ponds in Lemon Creek. If you have waders, please bring them along with gloves, a hat, water and mosquito repellent. Please contact Malcolm Collingwood at 917-915-1076 or malcolmcollingwood@gmail.com to RSVP.
