The Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Association announced that the restoration of Sam Murphy Park had been completed in anticipation of the GICIA’s 50th Anniversary.
TEN YEARS AGO
The Island School held a Give Thanks Dinner for parents and students. Road work was being completed near the North end of the island which was causing daily detours around Kappy’s and Grande Quay.
FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
The Youth Fishing Tournament was canceled when the fishing pier closed from rotting pilings and deterioration.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
The Boca Grande Fire Department held an open house. Ladies from the Island participated in a fashion show featuring attire from Special Effects for Women, Fugate’s and Ariel.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
Crab races were to be held at the Nautical Flea Market/Octoberfest at the Fishery Restaurant in Placida.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
The Pink Elephant restaurant began its season with a brand-new chef. Giorgio Oldano, an international, award-winning chef, brought the cuisine of northern Italy to Boca Grande.

The Boca Grande Club Marina became part of Uncle Henry’s Marina Resort.

Charlotte County sued the bridge company, Gaspar Inc., for reneging on a verbal agreement to honor discount coupons to island residents and workers.
