Lee County commissioners voted unanimously to pass a proposal to renovate the 5th Street public parking lot at a meeting held on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

While they have not yet begun to create a timeline for the project, it will include enhancement of the existing parking lot by increasing the number of parking spaces from 46 to 91, adding parking bumpers, landscaping and a new ADA-accessible boardwalk to the beach, and more signage.

This plan will require the removal of some of the foliage along the north side of the parking lot and will include use of the currently vacant pavilion area.

The permitting process is expected to be complete within 60 days. They hope to have the renovations done by the end of the year.
