Boca Grande residents with homes in the Northeast were the feature on the front page after Hurricane Sandy slammed their homes. Gov. Jeb Bush was the featured speaker at the Boca Grande Men’s Club.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

The Boca Grande “iguana tax” advisory board was scheduled to meet regarding second thoughts they were having about getting rid of iguana hunter George Cera and replacing him with the USDA.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Island School officials scheduled a town hall meeting to address public concerns regarding their potential new school site, and Jim Grace and Rebecca Schellinger were featured in RPP’s “Talley’s Folly.”

An attempt was being made to stop anyone without a license from operating a golf cart on the island, and Palm Island Resort President Dean Beckstead said they were obtaining permits to install devices along their shoreline to “train” ocean currents and to stop erosion.
