The Orange Blossom Express will be pulling into Boca Grande once again – bringing with it some of the most recognizable figures from the island’s past to a Lunch with the Legends, sponsored by the Boca Grande Historical Society.
The event will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3 at The Gasparilla Inn & Club. It will feature local thespians Maggie Bush, Ann Fletcher, Carol Forrester, Kathy Futch, Jeff Gaines III, Lew Hastings, Terry Seitz, Elaine Skypala, Jim Sullivan, Kimberly Whipple and Ross Witschonke as the legends. Al Nethery will perform on the piano.
Tickets are $85 and are on sale at the Historical Society, located at 170 Park Avenue, or by calling 964-1600. Seating is limited, and tickets will be available on a first-reserved basis.
Among the legends returning to Boca Grande will be Peter Bradley, Pansy Cost, Louise Crowninshield, Jane Engelhard, Jerome Fugate, Nat Futch, Jefferson Gaines, Katharine Hepburn and Bayard Sharp. Stories about some of these historic residents and visitors will be featured in the Beacon in the weeks to come.
For more than 20 years, the Historical Society has been collecting and documenting the history of Boca Grande and its environs.
“Events like this help us educate the community by bridging the past to our contemporary society,” said Patricia Nesser Agles, Historical Society president. “Luncheon guests will learn more about these historic figures who are part of the island’s lore and fabric. And, we hope they’ll have a lot of fun at the same time.
“We are especially grateful to the actors and actresses who are donating their talents to this effort and to the generous people in the community who are supporting our ongoing work and mission,” she added.
