All four age levels of the Englewood Cats Cheer teams competed in the Peace River Cheer Competition and brought home a first-place win in each level.

The “hearts of palm” books were delivered to the Boca Grande Fire Department in preparation for sale at the upcoming Fall Festival.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
Hurricane Wilma came and went with minor damage to the island. Island kids took advantage of the waves and surfed at the 9th Street beach.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
A Nautical Flea Market was held at the Placida Fishery. Vendors brought all things nautical to the market including old fishing tackle, deep-sea diver’s equipment and a cannon.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
Numerous letters to the editor were all in opposition to the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce having a home page on the internet.
THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
GeoBase Control Inc. was surveying Gasparilla Island using a high-tech Global Positioning System and satellites. The survey was contracted by GIWA for accurate maps.
FORTY YEARS AGO
GIWA members were being asked to approve a new rate structure for water and sewage. The rates were not meant to target higher usage but rather make the person think more about using large quantities of water.
