The Coast Guard announced that it would be relocating buoys from the Boca Grande Pass to deeper water, allowing for maintenance on the buoys.

The Boca Grande Health Clinic went high-tech with electronic health records.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

There was a fire at the Marina Village and Manor where seven units were destroyed. The loss was estimated to be nearly $800,000 with only minor injuries.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

Whidden’s Marina was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A group of islanders joined together to create a maritime museum at the marina.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The 86-year-old Power House at the south end of Gasparilla Island was newly renovated. A public open house was planned along with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Charlotte County Commissions voted to approve a 40-home development on Thornton Key.

FORTY YEARS AGO

The Gasparilla Inn filed an application with Lee County to raze and remove buildings, pool and tennis courts on its beach club property and replace them with new facilities.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Two U.S. geographical survey maps of Charlotte Harbor and the surrounding islands dated 1909 and 1927 turned up at Knight Bros. Boat Yard in Boca Grande when they were moving into a new office.
