FIVE YEARS AGO

L.A. Ainger Middle School held its first concert of the year with some Lemon Bay H.S. players filling in. A “new kind” of Strawberry Festival was held without the boutique and with masks.

TEN YEARS AGO

A too-heavy tour bus offloaded some of their passengers and made them walk across the bridge instead of taking two trips across.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

Yappy Hour was held at The Pink Pony and Dolphin Cove with about 15 dogs in attendance. Participants entered in a raffle for treats and toys.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

The Millennium Car Tour kicked off in Boca Grande with participants staying at The Gasparilla Inn. Participants had to drive cars built before World War II.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

A strong blizzard brought “snow” drifts to the island. Drifts of sand were blown about. No rain as the entire area was under drought conditions.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The Credit Union application was approved by the National Credit Union Administration. The next steps would be background checks and on-site inspection.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

By a margin of more than two to one, Boca Grande Isles homeowners voted to deny Sunset Realty access to Three Sisters Island.

FORTY YEARS AGO

The Florida Environmental Regulation Commission designated Lemon Bay and Sarasota Bay as Outstanding Florida Waters.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

A 50-foot Gulfstar Xerxes was seized by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Customs agents after it was found abandoned at Miller’s Marina with marijuana residue.
