Johann Fust Community Library held a book signing event for author P.B. LaSalle whose daughter, Patricia LaSalle had ties to the island. The book “Run for Your Life” was based around Englewood.

The first meeting of the newly appointed Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board was held.

Lee County recommended against turning the island’s gas station into office and retail space.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Charlotte County was involved in negotiations for the purchase of a 100-acre mainland base for a proposed ferry boat transport to Don Pedro Island.

A golf tournament was held at the Lemon Bay Golf Club, sponsored by Uncle Henry’s Marina Resort and benefitted the Children’s Cancer Center raising $50,000.

Cabbage Key hosted a musical festival including the national recording artist Lobo. The event was to benefit muscular dystrophy.

The Army Corps of Engineers postponed dredging the entrance of Boca Grande channel until after tarpon season.
