Lemon Bay High School girls’ soccer crushed Fort Myers-Canterbury for a win. Islander Ericka de Paula scored six goals that game and was holding the county record for goals that season.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Misener Marine Inc. of Tampa dumped 60 old railroad hopper cars donated by CSX Corporation into the Gulf of Mexico. The railroad cars were dumped in two different spots, which are known as the Box Car Reef and the Hopper Car Reef.

Boca Beacon newspaper boxes were added to various locations for reader convenience.

Construction began on Cole Island, an 84-condominium project named Boca Grande North.
