FIVE YEARS AGO

New hand sanitizing stations were being distributed to local businesses that took the “Boca Grande Pledge” to educate the public regarding cleanliness and slowing the spread of COVID.

TEN YEARS AGO

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested three men and were searching for a fourth who were fishing illegally near Alligator Creek.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

A man was arrested and charged with burglary of a structure and theft after he took fishing rods and reels from a boat and took ropes and straps from a nearby workshop.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

The filming of the Hoot movie was in full swing on Gasparilla Island and in Fort Lauderdale. Capt. Mark Futch was flying live mullet between the locations for a special movie shot.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

A boater tried to slip under the bridge while it was opening, and the boat’s tower got tangled up with the gear shaft located underneath the bridge. The boater was able to get untangled after the bridge opening was halted. A citation was issued by Florida Marine Patrol.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

 A reward of $9,000 was being offered for information to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who burnt the first of three fish cabins.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Workers were installing the barrel tiles on the roof of the Boca Grande Health Clinic. The project was still on schedule to open in the fall.

FORTY YEARS AGO

The historic Railroad Depot in Boca Grande was up for sale. The Railroad Depot had been built in 1910 and 1913 and remodeled by the Ramar Group in 1978.
