TEN YEARS AGO

A mystery survey was sent to random island residents, regarding Gilchrist Avenue parking? Who sent it? And why?

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

A group that included Robert Johnson, sisters Carolyn Ryals and Janette Washington, Chevalia Scurry, Bumps and Janell Johnson and others discussed with the Boca Grande Historical Society what it meant to them to grow up on the island. 

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Two non-profit island organizations, along with a national land preservation organization, were finishing up an application process for a $6.6 million grant to purchase the FPL property at the island’s south end. 

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

A local homebuilder took swift action after learning he made a tragic mistake: The color of a portable toilet at one of his sites in Boca Grande Isles was in direct violation of the HOA’s bylaws. He immediately altered the color.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The missing mascot of Island Bike ‘n’ Beach was returned to owners Terry Seitz and Jeanne Desguin. He had been kidnapped by some Cape Coral children who ultimately confessed to the crime.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

A Pilot Street two bed/two bath home could be purchased for $179,000.

FORTY YEARS AGO

 Five digit dialing became a thing of the past in Boca Grande. At 12:01 a.m. on July 30, 1983, the island’s “632” residential and “195” business phone numbers changed with the times and became obsolete.
