FIVE YEARS AGO

Waylon, Matt and Dan took top honors in the Howl at the Moon Tournament. There were 39 releases in that three-hour tournament.

TEN YEARS AGO

The new “Love Thy Neighbor” plan proposed by the residents of Gilchrist Avenue seemed to be working … at least for the meeting held on May 7 of that year. It included parallel parking along the median and new landscaping. As we know, it was not implemented. 

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

Despite overwhelming opposition from Boca Grande residents, Lee County officials said they planned to push ahead with a revised golf cart ordinance requiring operators of carts to be at least 16 and a licensed driver.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Mona Perkins, Sandy Burkhart and Beth Perkins were busy stuffing Ladies Day bags (provided by the Boca Beacon, of course).

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

With use of the Boca Grande Community Center up by more than 400 percent over the past two years, the center’s board was looking into construction of a new multi-purpose building as part of a two-step plan for expansion.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Chamber of Commerce President Becky Paterson was proud to show off their new office downtown in the Boca Grande Real Estate Building. Harold Bowe and Doc from Flint & Doyle in Fort Myers were moving a cottage from the Fletcher estate to The Gasparilla Inn grounds, where it would become the new croquet clubhouse.
