To the Editor:

There are some things money cannot buy: decency, manners, integrity, values and a smile!

Neighbors, friends and a family’s respect, community respect and the Almighty’s respect!

Money cannot and does not entitle anyone to destroy history!

The peace and quiet engendered in thoughtful contemplation, nor the ambience of our island built on memories embraced by principles, morals and kindness!

The fishermen, boaters who are courteous, sailors, shellers, tennis, croquet, golfers, bicyclists, the art, history and community centers offering countless distractions and volunteer opportunities, while encircling on our intellects. Above all, the few organizations that feed others through scholarships, medical assistance for a myriad of issues, our cart path and walking trails – We, the royal “We,” cherish our island and salute all who maintain the uniqueness of its 8-mile length and mile-wide belt to the isles.

Perhaps architectural integrity, dress codes and the moral fiber need to be reassessed.

Wit and wisdom, passion and perfection, opportunity and obligation, respect and the duty and responsibility of being a good citizen need reinforcement at the core of our little island to protect what we all cherish. Abusing and underestimating our freedoms as good citizens is not acceptable.

A concerned missive,

Louisa Vestner
