LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Summer and fall news at BGCC

September 14, 2023
By Boca Beacon Reader

To the Editor:

The summer has been an active season at the Boca Grande Community Center, and that will continue through the fall. Here are some highlights of what has happened and what is to come at the Boca Grande Community Center, 131 First Street West:

Summer Camp

Lee County Parks & Recreation staff wrapped up a successful summer camp. Camp was at full capacity of 60 campers for six weeks, Monday, June 19, through Friday, July 28. The children enjoyed art at the Art Center every Monday, presentations by the Lee County Library Summer Reading Program, a beach cleanup and numerous field trips. A few of the favorites were to Sky Zone, Mote Marine, the Sarasota Circus and Sun Splash water park. A huge thank you the Boca Grande Woman’s Club for supporting our summer camp program. Without their support these amazing trips would not be possible.

New Park Ranger

Lee County Parks & Recreation has hired a new Park Ranger, who is scheduled to start in Boca Grande this month.

Wheeler Road Community Park

Remediation of the dog park was delayed in August due to a shortage of construction materials. They are back working daily and hope to have the project finished this fall.

Youth Fishing Tournament

Saturday, Sept. 16, 9-11 a.m.

Grab your fishing pole and tackle box and come join the family fun at our youth fishing tournament. Tournaments are for boys and girls ages 13 and under. Bait will be provided (no lures allowed). All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian for this event. This is a catch-and-release tournament.
