To the Editor,
All monies raised during the current Habitat for Humanity “Dollar for Dollar” match will go directly into building homes for families like Jennifer Morales and her children.
Jennifer is the café manager at Imagine School in North Port and a single mom to three boys – Ryan, Noah and Cayne. She currently lives in an income-based apartment and her rent has increased each year, yet her income has not.
Living month to month puts great stress on her to provide for her children. Jennifer is very active in her community and her boys’ activities. She was accepted into our homeownership program on April 25, 2022, and she – and her boys – have been a favorite on our job sites and in our ReSale Stores, she has certainly raised three very hard-working and respectful young men.
Jennifer is approved in the Habitat homeownership program, she has met the program requirements and is waiting for her home to be completed. Jennifer will have an affordable 30-year mortgage on her three-bedroom, two-bath, one-car garage home. Jennifer will make her mortgage payment directly to Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity each month and become a part of our 530+ partner family!
Our local affordable housing crisis has worsened and families are finding it harder and harder to afford a place of their own since Hurricane Ian. Supply chain issues have created material shortages and rising construction costs are making it more and more challenging for us to build homes for qualified families like Jennifer’s.
