LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Another successful egg hunt in the books!

April 21, 2022
By Boca Beacon Reader
A BIG THANK YOU to Patricia Bossey, Debby & Duncan Cross, Sue Fuller, Kris Ganong, Jane & Clark Hinkley, Lori Hunter, Marge Laughlin, Anne Lyons, Rebecca Martin, Madonna Merritt and Karen Zarse, as they spent quite a bit of time stuffing over 400 boxes filled with treats for the kids. On the day of the hunt, Georgia & Maddy Aguilar, Debby & Duncan Cross, Lori Hunter, Trent Keisling, Louise Martin, Mary Ann McGowan, Honey Skinner and Karen Zarse provided assistance where needed. Special recognition goes out to Pat Chapman, who when called upon, does anything and everything that is asked of her when it comes to the children. Pat spent her 22nd year volunteering for the hunt by filling goodie boxes on Thursday and supervising the prize table on Saturday. She was wearing her 2004 Smarty Jones winning Kentucky Derby hat too. YOU ARE THE BEST, PAT!

To the Editor:

In what has become an annual “rite of spring” Boca Grande tradition, this year’s Easter Egg Hunt provided an “eggstrodinary” time for over 300 “eggstra-special” children.

None of this would be possible without the countless volunteers who make this event what it is. Somehow, we seem to find some great, patient, energetic folks who always provide the help we need.

Thank You, Lee County Parks & Recreation, for providing the “manpower” for this program and giving our kids an “eggciting” experience.

The 46th annual Boca Grande Easter Egg Hunt came to fruition with the late Community Center matriarch, Dolores “Dee” Wheeler in 1975. For the first few years, Dee had the kids decorate and ride their bikes to the hunt, in what became the Easter Bike Parade. When the Woman’s Club Fair started in 1986, Dee had the kids bike to the fair. This led to the creation of the annual Bike Path Parade. Thank you Dee for all you did for this community.

Last, but certainly not least, a HUGE thank you goes out to the Friends of Boca Grande Community Center and their Executive Director Marta Howell. The Friends fund the entire egg hunt; as well as funding many of the youth programs at the Center.

THANK YOU FRIENDS!
