Laundry fire, bicycle accident, car fires and more for BGFD
The Boca Grande Fire Department has kept relatively busy with a quite diverse grouping of calls in the last two weeks.
On Saturday, May 14 at 5:21 p.m. the fire department was called for mutual aid on the north side of the Boca Grande Causeway for a possible overturned boat. It was a false call, and the fire department responders returned to quarters before reaching the destination.
On Monday, May 16 at 11:17 a.m. the department responded to 777 7th St. E for a structure fire at The Gasparilla Inn & Club laundry. The folding machine caught on fire but was extinguished by the time the fire department arrived. Firefighters checked and secured the machine.
On Wednesday, May 18 at 8:09 p.m. the fire department was called to 350 Park Ave. for a male with a medical problem who had collapsed.
On Thursday, May 19 at 3:33 p.m. a walk-in to the fire department was treated for an arm injury and went to the hospital in a private vehicle.
On Friday, May 20 at 2:59 p.m. the department was called to the intersection of 24th Street and Gasparilla Road for a woman who had fallen from her bicycle. Injuries were minor and she was not transported.
On Sunday, May 22 the department responded to 5800 Gasparilla Rd. for a vehicle fire at 2:49 p.m. The vehicle fire was in the engine compartment and was threatening brush and grass. There were no occupants in the car, a red Mercedes. It was extinguished.
Also, there have been numerous envenomation/sting walk-ins to the station for wasp and bee stings.
