Henry Becton and Oakley Johnson win Laser model sailboat regatta 

The Basin Sailing Yacht Club held its annual “Island Championships” this past Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Boca Bay Powerhouse lagoon. Racing conditions were great, though mixed, with a Northwest breeze followed by a Southeast breeze. The club races remote controlled Laser sailboats, which are one quarter size.

Several qualifying races were run creating Group A and Group B Divisions. Racing was close. The final outcome for Group A was Henry Becton (1st), Lee Edwards (2nd) and John Foster (3rd). Group B was Oakley Johnson (1st), Tim Kimer (2nd) Tom Wilcox (3rd).

Only the rudder and sail can be remotely controlled and these boats are quite fast and make for exciting racing with lots of positions changing in any given race. Sunday afternoons around 2:30 is the regular racing time. For more info, contact: Eric Holch at (508) 246-7653
