A Port Charlotte roofer was charged in connection with a burglary of the island’s Wachovia Bank Branch on Palm Avenue. It was believed that it was the first burglary on the island.

A heater fire broke out in a second-floor room of the 83-year-old Gasparilla Inn. No flames were visible, but the heating unit was smoldering.

A draft application for an island credit union was sent to regulators in Atlanta for review. Public meetings were held on the proposal to establish the Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority.
