Thomas C. McDermott 1936-2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas C. McDermott, who left us on December 7, 2025 at the age of 89. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away peacefully at his home in Pittsford, NY.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Gloria McDermott, and his sister, Dorothea Warren. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his sons, Tom (Carol), Mark (Karen), Jim (Beth), and Andy (Margret) McDermott; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
While many knew Tom as a successful and respected figure in the business community, including leadership positions as President and COO of Bausch and Lomb, and Chairman, CEO and President of Goulds Pumps, his true legacy and the role he cherished above all others was that of a dedicated family man. He married Gloria “Bunny” Newmark in 1958, and together they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and partnership, raising four sons and forming a close-knit family that remained the center of his life. Though he achieved much professionally, he remained humble, grounded, and always clear about what mattered most.
Tom’s greatest joys were spending time with his large family, visiting Cape Cod, and cheering on the Red Sox. To his grandchildren, he was “Pop Pop,” and his easygoing, playful spirit became known lovingly as “Pop Pop Cool.” A Veteran, Tom served his country in the Army from 1958-62 as a 1st Lieutenant, earning an Army Commendation Medal as well as Badges as an Expert Infantryman and Parachutist. After the Army, Tom continued to serve his country as a Special Agent in the FBI.
A devoted family man, his constant example steady, strong faith, generosity to various charities, great sense of humor and full of common sense-will shape generations of McDermotts. He will be greatly missed Friends may call Friday, Dec. 19, 4 to 7 p.m. at Anthony Funeral Home, 2305 Monroe Ave. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas More Church, 2617 East Ave. Rochester, 14610. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lolypop Farm Humane Society. To share a memory of Tom or send a condolence to the family visit anthonychapels.com.
