FIVE YEARS AGO

The Matriarch of Boca Grande took her last ride over the Causeway on June 20, 2018. Isabelle Joiner took her first steps on the dock at Whidden’s, as well as her last. 

TEN YEARS AGO

The “Jill Marie” was howlin’ as Capt. Dave Chatham and his team took first in the Ladies Howl at the Moon Tournament, Capt. Willie saved a kayaker, and the vase Sue Shaffer made for Wild Man Joe’s mortal remains was found at Mutton Minnow Hole.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

Team “Casuarina” had a double-header win, and Bayne Stevenson bought the Fugate building from Nancy Blank and Toby Weiner.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

The captain of “Hey, Moma!” turned the Hollinswood tournaments into Wayne’s World.  

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Improvements to the softball and soccer fields at the end of Wheeler Road included improved lighting, a new infield and dugouts.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Charlotte County agreed to inspect the cause of severe flooding at the north end of Gasparilla Island in front of Grande Quay. Heavy June rains left almost two feet of standing water there.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Tarpon boat “Island Woman” went down in flames, and islanders were planning a fundraiser for boat owner Thomas Lowe.
