Are you interested in getting more involved with the community?
Do you enjoy meeting new people? Are you passionate about preserving our unique island history?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Boca Grande Historical Society needs you!
The Boca Grande Historical Society is embarking on a new, expanded program of speakers, special events, new exhibits, community outreach and much more!
At this year’s annual meeting, Melissa Csank was appointed volunteer coordinator.
Melissa has been visiting Boca Grande since her parents became residents in the early ’80s and is passionate about every- thing the island has to offer. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Melissa graduated from Skidmore College in upstate New York, and, prior to moving to Boca Grande full time, had a career in pharmaceutical marketing in New York City and Southern California. She is now a local Realtor® and is heavily involved with the Boca Grande Sea Turtle Association, serving on their board. She also volunteers for the Johann Fust Library Foundation, where she handles social media and special projects.
“I have always been charmed by the unique history of Gasparilla Island, and I welcome the opportunity to strengthen the bond between the island community and the BGHS,” said Csank.
As a volunteer coordinator for the Boca Grande Historical Society, she will connect individuals interested in volunteering with areas of need, and add structure to the volunteer program as well. In partnership with board members, she will assist in the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.
“We are looking for volunteers to get involved for a few hours a week, whenever it suits you. Summer is when we plan for the upcoming season, so if you’ll be nearby this summer and have some time to spare, we’d love to have you join us,” said Csank. “We know that your time is precious, and we will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your experience with us. There are many aspects of the organization you can choose to get involved with.”
The Boca Grande Historical Society promotes the enjoyment of learning and is committed to enhancing the understanding of the history of Gasparilla Island and its surrounding area.
