The tarpon are biting in the Pass and tournament season is heating up in Boca Grande, so make sure you’re signed up for all the events you’re interesting in fishing.

The first event will be The annual Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Boca Grande Pass. This tournament is almost completely full now, but you can still try to get a spot by calling the Boca Grande Chamber at 964-0568. Teams consist of a maximum of four anglers and their captain and the fishing is live bait, catch-and-release. The team with the most tarpon caught during the tournament wins. The 13th Annual Howl at the Moon Invitational Tarpon Tournament will be held on Friday, May 19 from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Pass. The entry fee is $600 per team. Cash prizes go to the top competitors in the field taking first and second place. Call Gasparilla Outfitters at 964-0907 for more information.

The World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament, also held by the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 25 and 26, in Boca Grande Pass from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Teams compete for big money prizes, the team with the most fish caught wins first place. There are also prizes for first and lash fish caught on each day. The captain’s party will be held the night before the first day of fishing, on Wednesday, May 24, 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gasparilla Inn Beach Club. This party is limited to captains and anglers, and will include the reading of the rules and a raffle. There are just a handful of spots left on that roster, so grab a captain and call the Boca Grande Chamber at 964-0568. The entry fee per team is $5,000.

The Red Gill Invitational will be held on Sunday, May 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Pass. First place is the team with the most releases, there is a second place prize, and the team who releases the first fish and the last fish will be awarded prizes as well. Each boat is eligible for only one prize. A complimentary dinner and DJ party will be held following the tournament at Whidden’s Marina. Entry fee is $650 per boat. The Howl at the Moon Ladies Night Out Invitational Tarpon Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Pass. Entry fee is $600 per boat with a field maximum of 25 boats. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place. A captain’s meeting will be held on Friday, June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at PJ’s Seagrille. The Gasparilla Island Kids Classic will be held on Saturday, June 10 in Boca Grande Pass form 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The team entry fee is $1,000. Great prizes will be awarded to the kids and captains, and all proceeds from the tournament entry fees go to benefit Moffitt Caner Center, All Children’s Hospital, Lemon Bay Conservancy, Englewood Community Care Clinic and the Charlotte County School System. Children who fish the event must be 15 or younger on the day of the tournament. A registration party will be held at the Boca Grande Community Center earlier in the day, with an interactive family art show, food, games for the kids and much more.
