At the end of January Lee County sent out mailers regarding iguana eradication (see letter below). Please follow the instructions supplied in the letter and turn your form in, either by mail or in person at the Boca Grande Community Center. If you did not receive a form please contact the number shown on the letter.
Dear Property Owner:
This letter is to inform you that the Iguana Population Control contract has been awarded to George Cera, and to give you some information through your MSBU (Municipal Services Benefit Unit) regarding the control efforts in your area.
Enclosed, you will find:
1. Tri-fold informational pamphlet produced by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
2. Business card for George Cera.
3. The vendors’ property access form.
One of the most prominent issues identified by the vendor and the Gasparilla Island MSBU Advisory Committee was the limited access to areas where the invasive iguanas are established. Although already provided to, and utilized by many residents of Boca Grande, the enclosed form will enable you to utilize the services provided by the vendor on your property.
Remember, you will likely continue to see iguanas around the area, as the purpose of the contract is only to control the population as much as possible. In order to do this, the vendor needs to access properties where this invasive species can reproduce and continue to harm your local environment and wildlife.
If you would like to have the vendor provide services on your property, please review the information provided, then fill out and drop off the access form at the Boca Grande Community Center located at 131 First St., West Boca Grande, FL 33921, or mail it to P.O. Box 2238, Boca Grande, FL 33921.
