Turn those sprinklers off when it rains!

Gasparilla Island Water Association staff would like to remind everyone to turn off their sprinklers when it rains. The easiest way to accomplish this is with an automatic rain-shutoff device that overrides the irrigation systems when sufficient rain has fallen.

Rainfall recorded on Gasparilla Island at GIWA’s wastewater treatment facilities in 2016 has been substantial so far this year, producing more than 20 inches of rain.

The breakdown is: 11.87 inches in January, 4.09 inches in February, 1.82 in March, 0.15 in April and 2.8 in May.

GIWA produced 394 million gallons of quality drinking water for the residents of Boca Grande in 2015. The organization is pleased to report that the water provided meets or exceeds all federal and state drinking water quality standards.

The 2015 annual water quality report is currently available online. Go to www.mygiwa.com. To receive a copy by mail, please contact GIWA at 964-2423.
