BY SUSAN ERWIN – As part of the Lee County Library system, The Johann Fust Community Library offers 24/7 access to the digital library system. Library card holders can enjoy free movies, music, magazines and a host of other E-sources.
Library patrons can go to leelibrary.net and click on the “Axis360” icon and browse by subject to find hundreds of downloadable e-books. The reader app is available for computers as well as IOS and Android devices.
Click on the “Freegal” icon to begin free streaming of movies and television shows, as well as gain access to a collection of more than seven million MP3 songs.
You’ll also find a link to Hoopla where you get up to 12 free items (in any format) per month. The app is also available in IOS and Android.
“IndieFlix” offers unlimited access to thousands of the world’s favorite shorts, independent films, documentaries and feature films. The library has public performance rights to these films; so if your group is interested in scheduling a showing in the library, contact one of the branches.
Card holders also have access to search The National Geographic Magazine Archives, which provides full-text searching of every article ever printed in one of the world’s most recognized magazines from its first publication in 1888.
Since 2013 the library has offered “Overdrive” on its website. You can log on anytime from anywhere and access the online library of downloadable audiobooks, e-books, music and videos. The files are transferrable to computers and portable devices.
“Since we merged with Lee County in 2013 we are happy to offer all of these valuable online resources for people to have access to any time they need it, said Senior Librarian and Branch Manager said Toni Vanover. “We also offer digital training programs for anyone who would like to come in and get a personal demonstration on how to use the applications.”
Library cards are free to individuals who live, own property, work, or go to school in Lee County or Boca Grande. Proof of eligibility is required. Non-residents may also obtain a library card. There is a charge of $15 for three months and $5 for an additional consecutive month.

Look for an upcoming series in the Boca Beacon called “The Library Corner.” Each week, an explanation will be written about how to install and access a particular application, how to use it and what it has to offer.
