Members of the planning committee for “Fantasy Island: Live Your Dreams!” would like to thank the more than 130 volunteers who made last Saturday’s Women’s Club Spring Fair and Bike Parade a huge success!
A special thanks goes to those members of the Women’s Club who chaired the featured events: Pauline Mendez, Marianne Schlecht, Sharon Allen, Lissy Pollnow, Vicky Winterer, Susie Wilson, Margo Freeman, Gabrielle Heidsieck, Bonnie Slomkowski and Kay Proops. We appreciate their talents and the hard work and time they dedicated to this year’s fair. We also want to recognize the more than 75 members of the Women’s Club who contributed their time on Saturday by working at the featured events!
We thank Lemon Bay High School and L. A. Ainger Middle School for leading the parade with their color guard, marching band and jazz bands and for opening the fair with the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Members of the football squad from Lemon Bay provided assistance with setting up and running the children’s games, making a very valuable contribution. Members of a local Girl Scout Troop were also on hand to help. Two young men, Grant Reecher and Yuki Fujii, volunteered their time to help run the different events. Many thanks to all these fine young people who gave up their Saturday!
Joe Wier and his team at Lee County Parks and Recreation always do a tremendous job in staging the fair.
We salute their leadership, support and cooperation! Much appreciation also goes to the members of the Boca Grande Fire Department who provided assistance.
Nine members of the community made a special contribution by volunteering to be targets in the first dunk tank in the history of the fair. Our gratitude goes to Dr. Tom Ervin, Boca Grande Health Clinic; Jon Reecher, The Gasparilla Inn; H Wetzel, Boca Bay Pass Club; Bayne Stevenson, GICIA; Jean Thompson, The Island School; Dusty Hopkins, Boca Beacon; Lt. Jeff Corkhill, Lee County Sheriff’s Office; Marta Howell, Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center and Hebe Murphy, The Women’s Club.
Finally, we appreciate the support of the members of the Boca Grande community who turned out in large numbers to support this year’s event. It was a beautiful day, filled with happy faces and much laughter!
