The event has been scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, and will be held on The Inn’s Pete Dye-designed course. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun tournament start at 12:30 p.m.
The entry fee is $200 per individual golfer, or $800 per team. Each team’s entry fee includes greens fees, a sleeve of Titleist Pro V1 balls, box lunches, beverages, the use of a cart and an awards party after the scramble at The Gasparilla Inn Beach Club.
“As in past years, this is the major fundraiser for the Boca Grande Chamber Scholarship Fund,” said Chamber President Marcy Shortuse. “Community involvement in this event is vital to area students who may not get the chance to further their education without scholarship opportunities. To say that this is very important to many of our students is an understatement: These scholarships are vital in maintaining financial viability for our students in order to continue with their education.”
Every year, the chamber scholarship committee meets and determines which students who have applied meet the necessary qualifications, and scholarships in the amount of $500 to $1,000 are granted.
This will be the chamber’s third year of granting a $10,000 scholarship as well, to a student who shows exceptional need and, at the same time, shows true dedication to their studies and personal integrity as well. This year that scholarship went to Mac McCarthy, who will be attending Florida Southwestern State College this year. Mac maintained his grades at Lemon Bay High School, while working at The Gasparilla Inn & Club as a bellhop.
The chamber is also looking for sponsors for the event. Whether you can sponsor goodies for the team bags, prizes or fulfill a larger sponsorship, your help is needed.
