Gasparilla Island Maritime Museum wraps up the Boca Grande winter season April 11 and 12 with the Whidden’s Back Bay Tournament.
The weekend kicks off at Whidden’s Marina on Saturday, April 11, with the Captain’s Party and Boca Grande’s first-ever Comfort Food Cook-Off. Beginning at 5 p.m. this event showcases island cooks and their finest “comfort food” dishes. The nostalgic element most comfort food has may be specific to either the individual or a specific culture. In other words, your favorite recipe that makes you feel good when you eat it is eligible to be entered.
Sample as much comfort food as you desire and vote for your favorite for the low cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children. Trophies will be awarded to the champions.
The second annual Whidden’s Horseshoe Tournament will provide a lively competition for anyone who wants to throw. The music of Mike Haymans will play as well.
The Whidden’s Back Bay Tournament takes place Sunday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is still time to enter the largest field in the seven year history of the event. Entry is just $350 for a team of four angles. This year teams will be fishing for redfish, trout and snook. There is a $1,000 first place team prize and various awards for a variety of categories.
All proceeds from the First Comfort Food Cook-Off and Whidden’s Back Bay Tournament benefit the Gasparilla Island Maritime Museum.
