A new pass has finally opened on the front side lagoon of Cayo Costa, after 1 1/2 years of being closed with no water exchange, and the fish that were once trapped are now free to move to the Gulf! The extreme onshore wind during the cold fronts last week, and high tides with heavy rain has created the necessary conditions to blow the new pass wide open.
According to park officials, the fishing and water quality will improve in the lagoon. This is located just to the north of the campground.
